Ella Kang
Born in the U.S., growing up in a foreign language-speaking country, and moving back to the U.S. in 6th grade…there was never an easy way to climb over the great wall of culture division and languages. Watching my peers splitting their eyes with their fingers; mimicking my awkward and basic English skills as they laugh; ignoring the begs for help from a kid without any idea on how to improve her skills and writing. Thus, I have decided to launch a program where ANYBODY who is about to, who is, or already has suffered through the problems that I previously have, after those long adventures of improving and becoming a better onein English–especially in writing such essays and documents and employing further sophisticated and advanced language skills.
Farinaz Labbafi
I was always passionate about helping others; moving from Singapore to a completely new place with a completely different culture was a challenge I faced in 5th grade. This moment opened my eyes to the difficulties immigrants face when traveling to a new country, having no family, and facing an unfamiliar place. This is one of many things which pushed me to contribute to a nonprofit that helps people struggling with adaptation, and helping to familiarise individuals with distinct cultures and languages.
Jacob Lawrence
Growing up in various Mandarin-speaking countries, it was natural for me to speak Mandarin fluently and become familiar with their beautiful cultures. Moving back to the U.S., I have always dreamed and was exceedingly passionate about working in the community, providing assistance that will increase the utilization of opportunities for English learners. I am ready to throw myself into this program, where I can release and employ my skills and efforts to the ones who are desperate for the help of a proficient and understanding guide to advance their English skills and become one of the locals!
Melisa Bilgi
When I first moved to the U.S. from Turkey 2.5 years ago, I struggled deeply with language barriers, especially when it came to understanding and writing formal documents. Despite knowing some English and even Russian, I received no help during my hardest times, which made my first year incredibly isolating and overwhelming. That experience stayed with me and eventually inspired me to participate in this nonprofit—so others like me wouldn’t have to face the same confusion and helplessness alone. Now, I assist “Basic-English” speaking immigrants in navigating real-life situations with the advanced English skills needed for documents, resumes, and more.
Catherine Hassenien
Since elementary school, I've been surrounded by a diverse community, including a close friend who speaks German at home. I saw firsthand the challenges of switching between languages daily, noticing her struggle with articulation, writing, and comprehension. I was encouraged to help her express herself in school, whether it’s revising writing, analysis, etc. Beyond just language, I also learned about her parents' journey from small towns in Europe with limited access to education, to seeking better opportunities in the U.S. Their resilience has inspired me to help others facing similar challenges, just as I’ve supported my friend.
Alex Kang
Growing up in the U.S. with imperfect and short English, coming from South Korea, every moment was a catastrophe.The ability to talk and write in English naturally and fluently like all the others who surrounded me was always written on my wish list. It was never crossed out, until I finally made my “wish” come true, at last. Yet, the process that brought me to the succession was never painless. The discrimination coming from the stereotype that a small Asian girl who can’t talk or write like locals will never be able to learn either, and different cultures andtrends that built immense distance between myself and my peers…now, terminating these unnecessary efforts and pain for the newly settled ones in the U.S. became another wish written in my wish list, to be crossed out!
Richard Chen
I came to the U.S. from China when I was 12, knowing only very formal, but limited English. I struggled to keep up in my classes, especially when writing essays or reading comprehension. Over time, I realized how important strong English skills are in daily life and professional settings as it is the crux of the college application process and careers for the future. That’s why have helped start this nonprofit—to help other immigrants like me navigate those same challenges and succeed.
Selin Aghayeva
As an immigrant myself, I can thoroughly relate to the hardships and stresses that newly settled immigrants face. When my family and I first moved to the U.S., we struggled to understand the ways of the “new world.” Particularly, it was extremely difficult for me to understand the new system of education and how the relationships with people in my community worked–mostly caused by the vast distinctions in
cultures and the structures of societies. For this, I’ve always wished for somebody to guide me. Thus, as I had several people, who were always willing to help us adapt, and overcome the pain that newly settled immigrants inevitably encounter, I am here to now, support and assist other immigrants to fully adapt to their “new world!”
Nicole Chaitas
As a high school student, I’ve always been passionate about helping others, especially within my community. One experience that opened my eyes was seeing how some of my classmates’ parents, who had recently moved to the U.S., struggled to fill out job applications and write professional documents due to limited English skills. Realizing how these language barriers affected their opportunities motivated me to take action. I founded a nonprofit to support basic English-speaking immigrants by helping them develop advanced writing skills for real-life situations, like creating resumes and formal documents.

다양한 문제들을 직접 관찰하고 이해하고자 합니다.
특히 언어 장벽, 문화적 차이 등
이민자들이 경험하는 어려움에 주목하고 싶습니다.
이러한 문제들을 분석하여,
그들이 새로운 환경에 잘 적응할 수 있도록
실질적인 도움을 제공하고자 합니다.
이를 위해 외국어를 유연하게 구사할 수 있는
프로그램이나 교육 자료를 개발하고, 직접 참여할 계획입니다.
English Convos라는 자선단체의 활동을 통해
사회의 다양한 문제에 대한 인식을 넓히고자 합니다.
단순한 봉사를 넘어, 문제의 근본적인 원인을 파악하고
지속 가능한 해결책을 제시하는 것이 목표입니다.
그 과정에서 소외된 이웃의 목소리를 듣고,
그들의 삶의 질 또한 향상시킬 수 있는 방안을 모색하겠습니다.
이러한 활동들에 진정성을 담아 꾸준히 실천하며,
더 나은공동체를 만들어가는 데 기여하고자 합니다.
이러한 경험을 통해서
세상을 바라보는 시선도 넓어질 것이라 생각합니다.

저는 영어 교육에 관심이 많은 한국 고등학생으로,
경영과 국제문화에 대한 이해를 키워가고 있습니다.
경제적·문화적 이유로 영어 학습에 어려움을 겪는 사람들에게
도움을 줄 수 있다는 점에서 큰 의미를 느꼈습니다.
미국 문화와 예절, 언어를 함께 가르치는 이 프로그램은
단순한 영어 수업을 넘어 진정한 교류의 장이라고 생각합니다.
저는 한국 지부의 마케팅 및 운영 업무를 배우고 돕고 싶고,
동시에 교육에도 적극적으로 참여하고 싶습니다.
Englisg Convos를 통한 이 활동을 통해글로벌한 시야를 넓히고,
나아가 사회에 긍정적인 영향을 주는 사람이 되고 싶습니다.
